The Way of the Worrier
I am a worrier. I worry about things that have actually happened! I imagine past conversations and think of how I could have made things worse. I know that the majority of the time I am worrying about nothing. Unfortunately this tends to lead to a ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’ situation.
When I start to worry about something I ignore it:
Worry Center: Panic, panic, this is a bad idea!
Me: You say that about everything!
And mostly it turns out everything is fine. Recently though I was worried about something and my instincts were bang on. The next time I feel worried I won’t know what to do!
One way round this problem is to imagine the worst case scenario. This doesn’t work for me. A normal person’s worse case scenario would be: ‘You’ll be told off.’ or ‘You’ll have to apologies.’ or something else equally innocuous. My stupid brain is thinking: ‘Your execution has been set for later today.’
Stupid brain!
Anyway things are good now. I may have had a legitimate worry but its all fine now! What stupid things does your mind do?

A Chandler Bing Moment
When I was on my way home yesterday a girl asked to ‘borrow’ my bike. A strange thing to be sure. I told her no, because I wanted to get home, and walked away.
Afterwards I was thinking why did I do that? Its highly unlikely that she was going to steal the bike. I couldn’t help thinking of a line from Friends ‘Mental note: If Jill Goodacre offers you gum, you take it. If she offers you mangled animal carcass, you take it.’ http://tinyurl.com/ptypren
I didn’t know this girl and the request caught me off guard. She would likely have just ridden it to the end of the street and back.
It was probably for the best though. She was likely a little tipsy and was probably wearing heals – not the best combination for a bike.

Tenby Holiday 2013
My family have been coming to Tenby, Pembrokshire, every year for the last 15 years or so. We’ve camped, stayed in a B&B, stayed in a caravan, but for most of the years we’ve booked a self cate
ring apartment… Click here to read on.

Villians
Villains are tricky concept in fiction. A villain, in general terms, needs to stir up trouble for the protagonist. They create a problem and the hero has to go and solve that problem. Villains tend to have a plan and that plan often involves taking over the world….

The Doctor’s Name
Addendum: This was written before The Name of the Doctor was broadcast.
I thought I’d posted this but apparently I forgot to press publish. So its a little redundant now but nevertheless here it is.
Tomorrow’s episode of Doctor Who might reveal the Doctor’s name. I think this would be a bad idea. It is hard to say exactly why I think this but I think I can brake it into two points.
- The mythos of the show. In the quintessential episode of Doctor Who the Doctor will arrive, he’ll introduce himself as simple the Doctor. Having the definite article in his name has great power. It is also interesting to me that all the people he meets just take to calling him Doctor. They never enquirer as to exactly what his doctorate is in or for any information this gives the character an almost godlike quality.
- What could the name be? As he is an alien the name will simply be a construction of sounds. His name could be Alkatha – and that is just a random phrase I made up on the spot – it could be Galcorodonelkane – it could be Anan 7 for all we know – it could be anything. The Doctor is unlike any other character in fiction and I think that naming him would mean the story would lose its power.

Unkempt Hair
Well doing VEDA was an interesting. That’s short hand for I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have a plan which was why some of the videos were a little rushed. (Okay maybe all) Now though I’ve set myself the task of doing just one a week which is far more manageable.
As I write this my hair is all over the place. This isn’t a problem for text but, of course, needs to be considered when recording. So better videos to come.
I’ve still been wrestling with Windows Movie Make but it keeps crashing. I will be looking for an alternative that isn’t too expensive. We shall see.
I’m going on a writing retreat this weekend. Maybe there will be opportunities for vlogging.
I will schedule a video for Saturday which you can see at: http://www.youtube.com/user/UnstableOrbit

I’ve been doing VEDA
VEDA, as you may know, is Vlog every day in April. I know it is now the 27th of April but there are videos on my channel for almost everyday – I only missed one I think. Here is the address: http://www.youtube.com/user/UnstableOrbit
When April has finished I will be uploading once a week. I will post here more frequently too. At the moment I seem to be juggling a lot of things. Isn’t that always the way.
You know it doesn’t matter how many to-do list apps you download there is always something that falls by the wayside.
Be back soon.

The Way of the Warrior – Essay
The Way of the Warrior1 is a feature length episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine2. It was the opening story of the show’s fourth season. It changed the status quo of the series with the introduction of a new main character, Lieutenant Commander Worf3, and the beginnings of war with the Klingon Empire4. The Klingons are the warriors referred to in the title and their displeasure with the peace treaty with the Federation5 is what drives the action. This essay will explore the development of the story by the use of three analytical works: The Writer’s Journey by Christopher Vogler6, Inside Story the Power of the Transformation Arc by Dara Marks7 and The Art of Dramatic Writing by Lajos Egri.8
