You know you’re old when you look out the window, see snow, and think ‘Bloody snow! I have things to do!’ Specifically my last university meeting before a deadline.

A Late Delivery from Cardiff
I had an idea the other day. Believe it or not this came from watching a clip show. Specifically TNG’s ‘Shades of Grey’
It occured to me that a story could be written using 50% old fottage. For those of you who don’t know ‘Shades of Grey’ came at the end of season 2 – just before TNG hit it’s stride.
So I’m going to write a story, set in my own universe, inspired by what ‘Shadea of Grey’ could have been.

The Sadist
Writers have a sadistic streek in them. Recently, in writing my novel, I’ve been thinking ‘I really need to kill this guy.’ Basically the death of one person has an important effect on those left behind. So you end up with the rather bizzare situation of being X amount through and being concerned that someone isn’t dead. I think it was Kurt Vonnegut who said, something to the effect of, that no matter how nice our character is we shouldn’t let that stop us from making horrible things happen to them. From that conflict develops and then we get our story.

An Army of Alarms
Next to my bed sits a mobile, a tablet and an ipod. On most days I set one alarm and that’s fine. Today though I had to be up early, made more difficult by having a late shift yesterday, so I set a large number of alarms. I set my ipod to beep every 15 minutes of so to make sure I was awake. Yes, I have to be up bright and early today but I find that those states are mutually exclusive.

The Illusive Idea
On Friday I have university. Before going I have a piece of writing to do based of a picture. We were given three pictures and told the write something outside of the normal areas we write in. So I decided to write a story for radio. Deciding that was the easy part. Somewhere along the way an idea began to take shape. I had characters and a vague idea of what was going to happen. Without trying to sound too silly writing can make you feel a little Godlike. As every time you pick up a pen, or put fingers to keyboard, you are creating a new world and new people. And, with a million or so words in the English language, every writer will discover a formation that no-one has seen before.

There are always possibilities
A new day. Work was very busy yesterday. Sometimes it feels like every house in Cardiff has sent a representative to come to the shop. Its funny but I tend to try to avoid the shops when its going to be busy. Yesterday though…
It was a cold January day. People began to look at their furniture in a new way. They decided that a sofa, or a cupboard wasn’t quite right for them. So in their masses they headed out. To a store that had stood for nearly ten years. A store for: families, couples, singles, and meatball lovers. A place that sold everything for the home. For some it was a home away from home. The name of the place is Ikea.

Match.com
Last night I decided to spend the money and sign up on Match.com. I have already realised that I might have made a mistake. I was receiving emails, before I decided to pay, about compatibility. They give you a ‘affinity score’ but ‘match affinity’ and ‘match’ are not the same place.
Nevertheless match does seem to have some useful tools and maybe it’ll be worth it.

Town
I spent the day yesterday in town. I had a meeting with my tutor in the morning and decided to stay in town afterwards. I’m doing my MA at the Univercity of Glamorgan – they have great facilities in Cardiff town centre.
I must remember that I work so much better in a library than I do at home. While on the face of it it might seem strang, given that a library does have distractions, but somehow I do get on better there than at home with no distractions at all.

Still tired
I’ve just woken without an alarm. It got me thinking how does that happen? The human body is quite an amazing thing. I would have thought that it would have had some idea of how much sleep it needed. So if you have a day where you wake, with no stimulus, I would think that you would feel completly rested. This however does not seem to be the case. I think I’ll ask one of the You Tube science guys.

Good Morning
The above is the title I will use when feeling uninspired. Every time I type ‘morning’ I have to spell check it. I’m just making sure that I’m not wishing you a good time grieving. I guess everyone has some words that they struggle to spell. Another for me is ‘definitely’ I almost always end up writing ‘defiantly’. What words do you struggle with?
